Purple Petals To Suit, A Short Poem

Purple petals, grown here to suit,

Fine fans so chic, aren’t they cute?

Waving about in a gentle breeze,

Inviting all of the nearby bees,

Delicate blooms looking so dear,

About to leave until this time next year.

I like the solid color of these fine, thin, petals. They sort of look like folded fans. The yellow centers against the purple look nice too.

Thanks for stopping in and have a great day!

Chad Versus The Hydra, A Tale for Monstrous Halloween

Welcome back from the words of our sponsors. For those just tuning in we are here talking with Chad Chitwick, a slayer of monsters. So, Chad, what would you say was the toughest monster battle you’ve had?

“The Hydra battle, most definitely. I know, I know, you’re thinking, ‘Didn’t Heracles already slay that thing?’ Maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. I do know that I came face to face with the business ends of this creature.

All seven of them, well, at least when I started. I didn’t have a handy means of fire at the time so actually killing this thing was an insurmountable task. Instead I just kept chopping.

First, one head, then two and so on. See the problem is each of those stumps grew two more heads in its place. I was dodging left and right at the same time!

By the time the beast finally retreated I believe the count was a staggering seventy eight. Good luck finding that many matching hats…am I right? So yeah, the hydra turned away and headed back to his lair to chill and lick his wounds. Haven’t seen him since.”

The Green Door, A Flash Fiction

Shelly ran up to the green door, heart pounding in her chest. The other children shouting in the background, “She’s going to do it!”

A foul odor wafted from the slot in the door. Scraping and shuffling noises coming from the other side. Shelly tried to peer in through the slot but it was too dark to see what was making the noises.

“It doesn’t count if you don’t stick your arm in!”, yelled one of the older boys from the other side of the street.

With a hesitant sigh, Shelly closed her eyes and thrust her arm into the slot quickly. Just as she started to pull her arm back out something caught it on the other side. She screamed! Frantically trying to pull her arm back out, a sharp pain lanced into her hand.

The other children watched in horror as Shelly fought to pull her arm back. Blood started to run down from her arm, coating the door in a sickly red color.

A nearby adult, hearing all the commotion, ran over to Shelly. He tried to calm her down so she would stop pulling on her arm. He opened the door to reveal Shelly’s arm had become speared on a very large splinter right near her hand. This was going to need stitches!

The penned animals further inside looked on, a little frightened by the commotion. No monster inside after all.
