A Touch of Passion (poem)

A touch of passion within,

Cloaked in innocent white…

Petals look ready to spin,

On this flower so bright…

Greets the world in the morning,

Carries you through the day…

Then leaves you in forlorning,

When winter comes to stay.

A little lamenting of the lack of such pretty flowers throughout the winter. There is, however, a beauty that winter possesses all its own.

Are you in a place where it freezes in winter? Do you miss the flowers until spring? Let us know how you come in the comments below!

One way I cope is by admiring a few blooming flowers my wife keeps indoors. If you would like to try some yourself, pick up some Flowering house plants from Amazon.*

Halloween Challenge, Day 9: Zombie Divorce (story)

“Thank you for joining us, Mr. Festermeyer. Before we get started can I get you something to drink, maybe a snack from our tray here?”

Braaiiinnsss“, is all he said.

“Well, we haven’t any of those here. Why don’t we go ahead and get started. Ms. Festermeyer here has laid out her requests in this divorce. A division of assets from your combined household.”

“Let’s see here, she is requesting that she be granted the mausoleum where you reside. And there is the matter of alimony. Poor Ms. Festermeyer worked hard to make that place a home while you were off eating the neighbors. Surely she should be awarded a portion of your income, at least until she is able to get herself established.”

“Do you have any objections?”

Braaaaiiiiiinnnnssss!!”

“Ok then, if you’ll just sign here.” As the pen is handed over, with speed surprising for a rotting husk of a man, Mr. Festermeyer grabs my by the head and wrenches my neck, snapping it in one fluid motion.

Never meet with zombies!

The end.

Halloween Challenge, Day 8: Headless Horseman (opinion)

The prompt for Day 8 of the 31 Days of Halloween writing challenge by Fluture is to re-write your favorite Halloween story. Please do join in!

My favorite story for this season is the tale of the Headless Horseman. Told well first I believe, by Washington Irving in his story, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow[amazon.com]”. Unfortunately, with the time I have today I don’t feel like I could do the story justice with a re-write so instead I’ll talk about a couple of the other tellings I enjoy.

There are a few good renditions of the story and the one I grew up with was “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow[imdb.com]” starting Jeff Goldblum. This was a made for TV movie in 1980 that we had recorded onto VHS. The bumbling school teacher falling for a local beauty, Katrina. Brams, also interested in said beauty, trying to use the local legend to scare the school master. Then the legend comes to life. It is a nice setting piece and just enough sense of unease for my child self in the day.

Several years back there was a new version simply titled “Sleepy Hollow.[amazon.com]” This one stars Christina Ricci and Johnny Depp. Another interesting piece , it focuses more on a scheming plot driving the Horseman on his haunting of the village. A bit more gore than the previous one and more in your face with the killing. An interesting tale though with some interesting sub plots to think about.

Either one makes a great movie to watch to get into the spooky aspect of Halloween but good luck getting your hands on the TV one. I hope you get a chance to check them out!

Happy haunting, everyone!

Maple Magic (poem)

The moment right, the time is here…

The day alight, the sky is clear…

The sun, it sets, a golden hue…

This tree begets, a wondrous view…

Orange and gold, they are not faint

The colors bold, as if in paint…

Maple magic, to close the day…

No things tragic, I hope and pray.
