Halloween Challenge, Day 12: Recent Nightmare (story)

haunted-house-2900957_1280

Most nights I don’t remember dreams or nightmares really so I have to reach back a few weeks.

So the only, more or less, nightmare I can remember took place in some apparently random house.Β  I say that because I didn’t recognize the layout of the kitchen at all. This house was haunted by poltergeists. I remember being in the kitchen and the cupboard doors started banging and the drawers would open and shut repeatedly making quite the ruckus.

In this dream I was determined to banish these spirits. Now, I am not trained in such things, nor have I actually ever witnessed any type of exorcism before, so I am not real sure what I thought I was doing. Anyway, I proceeded to start to chant in some gibberish varied vocal tones and unintelligible words.

I never did find out if it worked, however, because my wife woke me up and wondered what I was making the gibberish sound about. Apparently the chanting wasn’t just in the dream. That happens with me from time to time. I think she’s waken me up for similar things, oh, 4 times in the last 4 years?

Well, that pretty much sums up my recent nightmare experiences. I didn’t have many to choose from πŸ™‚ So that concludes my entry for Day 12 of the 31 Days of Halloween ChallengeΒ hosted over at Flutter by Literature. A great site to check out when you have the time!

Halloween, A Year Past, First 5 Days (collection)

One of the things I enjoy about some of the content I create is that it is timeless, as enjoyable now as when it was first unveiled to the world. This post compiles a collection of the first 5 Halloween Challenge posts I published for 2017. I hope you enjoy them!

Attempt at a Haiku for JNW’s Halloween Challenge: Night

Night, Cloak of Darkness,

Hiding everything from us,

the things that go “Bump!”.

For the Party day of JNW’s Halloween Challenge I’ve decided on a flash fiction.

[Begin scene]

Jones arrived at the party, not sure he should have come. No-one called him by his first name, just “Jones”, as if not caring to get to know him.

Costumed as he was, it was unlikely anyone would recognize him anyway.

Then he saw her. Fitting that she should be dressed like an angel. The girl of his dreams, come from heaven, likely to fly right by.

Unable to tame his heart, he started to turn away, afraid to face such disappointment.

“Michael?”, his name like a song in her voice. He looked at her.

“I am glad you came!”, she said, smiling at him.

His costume did not hide him as he thought it would but it didn’t matter now.

He smiled back. She knew his name!

[End scene]

For today’s challenge of JNW’s Halloween Challenge – Day 11 – Hayride, I decided to try another Haiku. I hope you enjoy!

[Begin scene]

A horse drawn hayride,

Such a fun fall time event,

Ink stains on his face.

[End scene]

I don’t know if the picture helps or takes away from the Haiku.

The prompt for day 12 of JNW’s Halloween Challenge is “bat”. Let’s be creative.

[Begin scene]

The once was a goat named, “Bat”,

For his ears made him look like that…

One day in the barnyard he sat,

And said “I’d look better wearing a hat!”…

“Naaaay!”, said Horse, “You don’t need a hat.”,

“Baaaah!”, said Sheep, “You look fine like that.”…

“Cluck, cluck”, said Chicken, “We like you for you.”,

“Thank you!”, said Bat, “I like all of you too!”

And he didn’t feel the need to wear a hat again for his ears to be cloaked.

[End scene]

The challenge prompt for day 13 of JNW’s Halloween Challenge is “broom” Here we go!

[Begin Scene]

A witch flies across the sky on her broom,

Cloaked in the darkness of night…

Visible only when in front of the moon,

on her way to give someone a fright!

[End Scene]

If you noticed, those are up to the 13th day of the challenge, I hadn’t joined in right away.

Have a fun Friday!!

Halloween Challenge, Day 11: H.A.L.L.O.W.E.E.N. (story)

Help!”

Again the pleading voice rang out.

Looking around I could not tell where it came from.

Louder the cry repeated.

Over there,” my friend pointed.

We headed to the corner towards the voice cautiously.

Every danger I could think of did not prepare me for when we turned the corner.

Everywhere we looked, gremlins were attacking somebody.

Now they turned to attack us too!

A couple of childhood favorite movies featuring these creatures:

We meet the lovable Gizmo!

Gizmo goes Rambo (This one gets a bit goofy)

Halloween Challenge, Day 10: Chaos (poem)

chaos-663391_1280

You’ve waited all year for a little fright,

And it’s finally here, yes it’s Halloween night…

Some fun you intend as you head out the door,

Not knowing that the veil between world’s is now tore…

Out in the street, oh my dear, can it be?!,

You can’t quite believe all the chaos you see…

A dog with three heads just bounded away,

Red demons are out in the street there to play…

Some people are herded by witches on brooms,

Just not the ones wearing disguising costumes…

And the devil, he laughs from an easy chair,

Boy I sure do hope that you’re dressed up to scare!

If not, find the right costume at Amazon!*

This is my entry for Day 10 of the 31 Days of Halloween ChallengeΒ (chaos breaks out on halloween) hosted over at Flutter by Literature! Do join in! It is a LOT of fun! Here are my previous entries by day:
