Pumpkin Spice, A Terrible Tanka

Chelsea Owens hosts a weekly terrible poetry contest for laughs and letting it go. I figured I would give it an actual attempt this week which is a tanka on pumpkin spice πŸ˜‰

Pumpkin spice is great,

I mean it tastes really good

Add some to coffee,

Or that milky thing, latte?

Then drink it down, no regrets!

Yeah, that makes me cringe. How about you?

The Horseman Encounter, A Frantic Poem

cornmaze

Running fast,

the Horseman near,

chased into this maze…

He walks past,

Heart beats with fear,

Can’t see through this haze…

Turn quick right,

Keep running now,

Corn leaves in the face…

Filled with fright,

Must live some how,

Have to win this race!…

Cover ground,

Reach open air,

Think it’s safe, I say…

Turn around,

He’s standing there,

Oh no! I feel him slay!

Well, that certainly answers the prompt, “The headless horseman chases you right smack into a corn maze…can you escape?” of the Monstrous Halloween event. A long way of saying ‘No’. πŸ˜‰

I hope you enjoyed this fun poem πŸ™‚

If you’re looking for some fun creative Halloween prompts, head over and check out the prompt list, there’s enough for one each day if you’re so inclined.

News That Isn’t, A Poem – 3TC

Read the daily paper and your anger will quite flare,

The stuff they sell as news I sometimes wonder why they dare…

Often times misleading and very seldom true,

I could go on and on until my face turns rather blue…

But I must be going, must check out of this hotel,

Head far from this city where such thoughts I can dispel.

—————-

I get disgusted by the lack of objectivity in todays news streams. Newsprint, radio, tv, internet, the platform doesn’t seem to matter. Each presents an agenda, and the agenda isn’t just reporting what has happened but is laden with tons of opinion and misdirection.

On another note,I am happy with the flow of this Three Things Challenge (3TC#20) entry for the words anger, paper, and hotel hosted at pensitivity.

What do you think?

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Less Than Lethal, A Flash Fiction

The cell floor was still spinning. The variegated green tiles blending in a way that reminded Fred of vomit. The notion causing him to heave yet again into the nearby toilet.

The sound induced vertigo had set in fully. The cause, a new, less than lethal weapon that Fred himself had helped to develop. Why they used it on him here and now he wasn’t certain. There had been a coupe and he had somehow been swept up with the others.

The weapon was supposed to be more humane than outright killing but after this week, a bullet was becoming a very welcome thought. They didn’t even ask questions. They didn’t seem to be trying to sort anything out.

The sound ended and suddenly the spinning stopped. The jolt to clarity nearly made Fred hurl again at the unexpected change. The door to his cell opened and a man he did not recognize entered.

“Answer this question correctly and you are free to go.” said the man. “Who are we?”

Fred really didn’t know so he answered the question as best he could. “The new rulers”, he said.

The man nodded. “Guards! Escort this man out.”

———————–

Well, it isn’t the best wrap up for that but I didn’t want to see Fred trapped indefinitely and with only 200 words something had to happen quick. Good practice anyway! πŸ™‚
