Age of Wisdom, A Poem

No need to lament,

Days of youth now long gone,

Or this gradual decent,

From the height of your dawn,

For to look back and ponder,

The days of your past,

How life’s events wander,

Making memories that last,

This life’s been well lived,

Joyous times have been had,

From the days as a kid,

Through the years as a Dad,

Now with wisdom well earned,

You can guide today’s youth,

Save them from getting burned,

Help them seek out the truth.

While not being young changes the things you can do, it is important to remember the things you can offer that are not found in youth.

I hope you enjoyed this little poem!

Have a great day!

Friday Flashback, November 8th, 2017

I decided to participate in the Friday Flashback concept that Fandango over at This, That, and the Other has been hosting, where you present a post from the same date of a prior year.

For this week I have chosen a post from 2017. That year for the month of November I was writing a “Thankful For” series where from November 1st through Thanksgiving Day (U.S. holiday) I wrote a post on something I was thankful for each day. It was a good exercise and something we all might want to do more often. So here is what I was thankful for on November 8, 2017:

Thankful For: A Warm Home

Each day up to and including Thanksgiving I will post about one thing I am thankful for. I invite you to do the same if you like the idea.

Today, I am thankful for a warm home.

As I sit here typing this it is below freezing outside and my furnace is running, providing warm air throughout our home. I am thankful to be in a warm home. I know many people around the world are without such a place. It would be nice if everyone were able to find a warm place to sleep and be comfortable and I am thankful for the people who strive to make this a reality. Keep up the good work!

What are you thankful for today?

It’s Beautiful, A #writephoto tale

“Daddy. I’m cold. Why are we out here in the dark anyway?”, said my daughter, shivering slightly.

“You will see soon, pumpkin. Here, drink some hot chocolate and pull that blanket around your neck more.”, I replied.

I had waken her early knowing we would have a spectacular light show once the sun started to rise. I knew she would absolutely love it but I may have set us out too early. She was bored and starting to get cold. I hugged her closer.

“Do you see how it’s starting to lighten up? It won’t be long now,” I said.

“Long for what?”, she replied, a bit glumly.

“For that!” I pointed to the far horizon, the first of the sun’s bright gold edges just cresting the hill.

“Oh Daddy, it’s beautiful!!”, she exclaimed, wonder in her eyes. “Thank you so much!”

“You’re welcome! I knew you would like it!”

We watched as the sun continued in to full view, enjoying the moment together before heading back inside for some breakfast.

Subtly Brown, A Poem and FOTD

No flare for me,
Just a subtle retreat,
Into the worlds of brown…

Don’t need to be,
A color so sweet,
No need to be like a clown…

Yet here you see,
Still look pretty neat,
So smile, don’t give me a frown…

And quietly,
I will feel complete,
Accepting this small renown.

This leaf type simply leaves brown once the chlorophyll has left. Still has a bit of texture and serves the same role, hailing of the coming winter.
