Flowers Again, A Sunday Photo Fiction

Flowers again. Oh what did he do now? Judy thought to herself. Anytime her husband John bought her flowers, it always came with some confession.

This time sunflowers, her favorite, were sitting on the table when she came home from work. He really must have done something serious but he was nowhere to be found.

Her phone started ringing, the name displayed, ‘John’.

“Hi honey”, she answered, “the flowers are lovely!”

“Uhm, yeah, I’m, uh, glad you like them”, John replied.

She paused, waiting for him to start into his confession.

“Are you sitting down?”, he started. “You should be sitting down for this.”

“OK John, I’m sitting”, she replied.

“First, Judy, I hope you know that I love you so much! No one else would have put up with me. I’m thankful you did”

“What are you talking about? I love you John, of course I put up with you”, Judy cut in.

“Let me finish, please. I…I’m calling from heaven. I really did it this time, my truck slid off the road into a ravine. I will wait for you here one day but please don’t rush. I hope you find peace and live a long life! I will always love you.”

The line went dead. The sobs took her as soon as his message sunk in. John was gone.
