Thankful For: Coffee

As we approach Thanksgiving this month in the United States of America, I thought it would be nice to write a daily post about something I am thankful for.  Some of them will be little things and some of them quite important. I am not posting them in any particular rank or order and will cover many different things. Fortunately I have a lot of things to be thankful for, for which I am thankful.  The idea isn’t unique and I welcome you to do something similar, even if you don’t typically celebrate this holiday.

Let’s begin:

A little thing I am thankful for is coffee.  It is generally how I like to start my day, a nicely brewed, hot cup of coffee.  I often like to add a bit of sugar and cream, that goes with having a sweet tooth, but there are times I also will drink it straight.  It is a warming drink on a chilly morning and warms both inside and out as I hold the mug in my hands.  The distinct aroma is so pleasant that smelling it is almost as good as drinking it. It has become a part of my daily routine and as such has taken on a comfort food role as well. If for some reason I am not able to drink it on a given day, that day just seems a bit off…it didn’t start properly.

So yes, one thing I am thankful for is coffee.

Does coffee hold a similar spot in your life or do you prefer a different morning drink?

Scene: Hard Places, Soft Spaces

[Begin scene]

Rocks jut up from the ground, varying shades of tan and gray…

Sunlight streams across them, lighting up a face here and there, casting the rest in shadow…

These hard stones gathered here to help slow the erosion from heavy rains…

Blankets of pine needles lie about, filling the space between the rocks, looking almost inviting…

Contrasting not just in color but with the softening of such a hard place…

Life has many such places.

[End scene]
